FORZA ITALIA! St John Rigby Lower Schoolâs Enquiry Project
St John Rigby Lower School, Bedford and Creative Partnerships wish to contract 2 creative practitioners: a MOSAIC ARTIST, and a CARNIVAL ARTIST, to support the delivery of their creative learning programme.
Deadline for submission: 5pm, Tuesday 8th December 2009
The background
St John Rigby Lower School in Bedford is working with Creative Partnerships as an Enquiry school.
We are looking for two creative practitioners who can work in partnership with staff and young people to produce inspiring learning activities that relate to the development objectives of Creative Partnerships & the school.
Forza Italia! is a project that explores our enquiry question:
How can we help our children of Italian heritage to make more confident progress?
The project will run from January to June 2010.
Forza Italia! will explore ways in which creative activities can increase the confidence and enthusiasm of pupils of Italian heritage in order for them to make more secure progress. It will also involve parents, grandparents and guardians so that they can support their children fully.
The enquiry question focuses on progress rather than achievement and acknowledges the importance of the children's confidence in this process.
Forza Italia! will focus upon approximately 20 year 3 and 4 pupils of Italian Heritage (The Forza group). We believe that these children will grow in confidence most fully if the whole school community values and understands their heritage. Therefore, significant elements of the project will also reach out to other children in the school, as well as parents and members of the local Italian Community
A wide range of learning and community activities are currently being planned. These include:
⢠Mosaic Project - The Forza group will work with a Creative Practitioner to design an enduring artwork for the school grounds or building using the Italian tradition of mosaic, incorporating the children's symbols of Italy. The mosaic will then be produced by all year 3 and 4 children working with the Creative Practitioner. Prior to this the Creative Practitioner will deliver an Inset session for staff. Feb/Mar 2010
⢠Forza Fashion - A fashion show with a difference! The Forza group will work with a Creative Practitioner to create carnival style costumes inspired by the children's symbols of Italy (eg. leaning tower of Pisa, Olive Tree). The 'parade' will be part of Il Finale (a final event bringing together different strands of the project). Apr/May 2010
We hope that these ideas will develop and grow once the artists are recruited and become involved in the planning.
