WANTED - CREATIVE PRACTITIONER AT MARK RUTHERFORD SCHOOL

Mark Rutherford Upper School and Creative Partnerships wish to contract a creative practitioner to support the delivery of their creative learning programme.

The background
During the spring and summer terms 2010 Mark Rutherford Upper School will be working in partnership with staff, young people and creative partners to produce inspiring learning activities that relate to the development objectives of the school and Creative Partnerships.


The brief
Aims of the programme: Mark Rutherford Upper and Creative Partnerships wish to engage with an identified group of learners in developing their literacy skills with particular focus on reading. We wish to support these students in developing their reading skills in a creative learning environment, which in turn will engage these students and develop their learning across the curriculum.
The Enquiry Question:
How can ‘story’ develop literacy?

Selection Criteria – (this will be what you use to shortlist/interview)
Applicants will need to demonstrate:
• Experience of taking creative risks, experimenting with new creative approaches and enabling others to do the same.
• Experience of working collaboratively with young people and others to develop creative projects, which will be delivered to a wider student group.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills and the ability to liaise with school staff and other creative partners and partnership organisations
• Willingness to reflect and revise practice and enable others to do the same.
• Willingness to recognise all involved as partners in the process.

The application process
Young people will be involved in the recruitment process so please consider this when applying. We encourage creative responses to this brief and would be happy to view video or digital images online (via YouTube or Flickr for example), to accept PowerPoint slide shows or any other medium you would like to use. We are particularly interested in seeing evidence of your creative work with young people. Please be succinct and feel free to signpost us to evidence where possible.

• How you meet the selection criteria
• An initial response to the enquiry question (250 words max)
• Two brief case studies from recent projects plus reference information

Contractual information

The total budget for this programme is £4000

The programme will run from Jan 2010 to June 2009 with a total Creative Partner fee available of up to £3000 (inclusive of vat, travel and expenses) for up to 15 days including familiarisation, planning, project delivery and reflection and evaluation. There will be up to £1000 available for resources and materials. We seek to work in close collaboration with the Creative Partner to ensure the most effective model for the project. This may include recruitment of a secondary Creative Practitioner to support and enhance the delivery of the project if required.
The programme will be delivered through a mixture of full and half day sessions in school – exact dates to be planned.  Sessions will take place in term time only.
