Borough Council

13th November 2009

Hazeldene Lower School in Bedford is working in partnership with UKCCA as an ‘inquiry school’ for creative partnerships. The programme will take place between Dec 2009 and June 2010 at Hazeldene Lower School in Bedford, with the majority of the work being done in the spring term.

We are looking for a creative practitioner/s who can work in partnership with staff and young people to produce inspiring learning activities that relate to the development objectives of Creative Partnerships and of the school -around ‘speaking and listening’ skills.

The brief
The school is looking to develop creative approaches to ‘speaking and listening’ skills with year 2 pupils. We are focusing on ‘speaking and listening’ with the aim that it will also improve reading and writing skills especially among boys,
The school is particularly interested in collaborating with creative practitioners who use; storytelling, poetry, puppetry, sound, new media or music, or a combination of these.
We are looking for inspirational practitioners who can work closely with staff and children to plan, develop and deliver an exciting creative learning programme which will improve attainment, help raise self esteem and also inspire the rest of the school.
The Enquiry Question:
“How can the creative use of storytelling help to engage children in speaking and listening?â€
